Internet Terminology
Banner Ads An image placed on a web site by an advertiser that
display's the advertiser's message, and functions as a link
to the advertiser's site. The size of a Banner Ad is usually measured in pixels:
width - by - height.
'Top Banner Ads' are the large rectangular ads that appear at the top of the BloorWest.Info pages. They are 468 pixels wide by 60 pixels high.
'Side Banner Ads' are the smaller square ads that appear on the side of the BloorWest.Info pages. They are 120 pixels wide by 90 or 120 pixels high.
Impressions The number of times that a banner has been
presented to visitors.
CPM Cost of an ad per one thousand impressions.
Clicks or Click-throughs The number of times that
an ad has been clicked by visitors. A measure of response.
Click Rate, Clickthrough rates, or simply CTR
The number of visitors that view an
ad and click on it as a percentage of total impressions.
Hits The number of
pages displayed to visitors.
GIF or JPEG Standard formats
for graphics on Web sites. Banner Ads will use one of these two formats
Home Page The initial Web page that
you arrive at when you visit a website. It is the first
page a new user will see. It contains links to all the
other web pages offered by the Web site.
Listings BloorWest.Info has various listings for
goods an services on the website, such as business listings, classified ads,
real estate listings and automobiles for sale. To be listed in the
appropiate Listings is usually free, but for enhanced and priority
listings there can be a charge.
Log File All raw hits to a Web server are recorded
in this file. These log files are used to calculate and track usage
and can later be verified by third-party audit firms.
